2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are pleased to honor Henry Eilers and Ken |
4 | | Schaal on receiving the Hillsboro Sertoma Club's Service to |
5 | | Mankind Award; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Henry Eilers, a retired nursery owner from |
7 | | Litchfield, and Ken Schaal, a retired teacher from Hillsboro, |
8 | | have both been leaders in the work with the Natural Area |
9 | | Guardians (NAGS), Shoal Creek Volunteers, and at Bremer |
10 | | Sanctuary; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Henry Eilers was born in Germany; he and his wife, |
12 | | Ursula, established H&E Nursery in Litchfield in 1960; he |
13 | | convinced the city of Litchfield to set aside the Shoal Creek |
14 | | Conservation Area, home to over 700 species of plants, 80 |
15 | | butterflies, and numerous species of mushrooms and birds, |
16 | | sometimes including nesting bald eagles; he is also active at |
17 | | Bremer Sanctuary in Hillsboro, as well as NAGS, which oversees |
18 | | the county-owned rail trail between Hillsboro and Butler and |
19 | | the prairie restoration area on Route 66; and

20 | | WHEREAS, Ken Schaal is also active in NAGS and at Bremer |
21 | | Sanctuary, and serves on the Illinois Audubon Society's |
22 | | sanctuary committee; he taught at Hillsboro High School from |
