2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Phil Humber of the | ||||||
4 | Chicago White Sox for pitching a perfect game against the | ||||||
5 | Seattle Mariners on April 21, 2012; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Phil Humber became only the 21st pitcher in Major | ||||||
7 | League Baseball history to throw a perfect game and the third | ||||||
8 | member in White Sox history to pitch a perfect game, joining | ||||||
9 | Mark Buehrle against Tampa Bay on July 23, 2009 and Charles | ||||||
10 | Robertson against Detroit on April 30, 1922; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, The Chicago White Sox are now tied with the New | ||||||
12 | York Yankees with the most number of perfect games in team | ||||||
13 | history, with 3 perfect games; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, By pitching a perfect game, Phil Humber joins an | ||||||
15 | elite class of pitchers that spans the ages and includes some | ||||||
16 | all-time baseball greats, including John Richmond of the | ||||||
17 | Worcester Brown Stockings, John Ward of the Providence Giants, | ||||||
18 | Cy Young of the Boston Pilgrims, Addie Joss of the Cleveland | ||||||
19 | Indians, Charlie Robertson of the Chicago White Sox, Don Larsen | ||||||
20 | of the New York Yankees, Jim Bunning of the Philadelphia | ||||||
21 | Phillies, Sandy Koufax of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Catfish | ||||||

12 | WHEREAS, Phil Humber's game was Major League Baseball's | ||||||
13 | first no-hitter of 2012 and the 3rd in history against Seattle; | ||||||

15 | WHEREAS, Phil Humber was named the American League Player | ||||||
16 | of the Week for the week ending April 22, 2012; he went 1-0 | ||||||
17 | with a 0.63 ERA in 14 1/3 innings, while striking out 16 over 2 | ||||||
18 | starts that week, including the perfect game; therefore, be it

19 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
20 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
21 | we congratulate Phil Humber of the Chicago White Sox on his | ||||||
22 | perfect game against the Seattle Mariners and wish him |
