| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Robert Dean on his |
| 4 | | retirement as Superintendent of the Laboratory Schools at |
| 5 | | Illinois State University in Normal; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, He has been Superintendent since 1994; as |
| 7 | | Superintendent, he oversees the operation of a PreK-12 school |
| 8 | | system serving 1,000 students; the students are enrolled at 2 |
| 9 | | school sites, Thomas Metcalf School, PreK-8, and University |
| 10 | | High School, 9-12; the schools serve as a regional center for |
| 11 | | serving students with low incidence disabilities; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, He received his Bachelor of Science degree from |
| 13 | | the University of Wisconsin; his Master of Science degree from |
| 14 | | the University of Minnesota; and his
Ph.D. from the University |
| 15 | | of Wisconsin; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, In addition to his career as a Superintendent, he |
| 17 | | was also Principal at the Thomas Metcalf Laboratory School from |
| 18 | | 1986 to 1994; Principal of Waterloo Elementary School from 1979 |
| 19 | | to 1986; and a teacher in the Whitehall Public School from 1973 |
| 20 | | to 1978; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, He is a member of Phi Delta Kappa, the National |
|

| 1 | | Staff Development Council, the Illinois Association for |
| 2 | | Supervision and Curriculum Development, the
Illinois |
| 3 | | Association of School Administrators, the
National Association |
| 4 | | of Laboratory Schools, and the
Association for Supervision and |
| 5 | | Curriculum Development; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, He has published many articles on education during |
| 7 | | his career; made several presentations, at the local, State, |
| 8 | | and national levels; and has served and continues to serve on |
| 9 | | numerous educational boards, teams, and committees; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, He was selected as one of the 75 outstanding |
| 11 | | educators in Illinois in 1990 by the
Illinois Association for |
| 12 | | Supervision and Curriculum Development; he was honored twice |
| 13 | | (once as principal and once as superintendent) in the "Those |
| 14 | | Who Excel"
program, a Statewide competition designed to |
| 15 | | recognize excellence; he was an award recipient for his work, |
| 16 | | "Outstanding Contributions to Early Childhood Education", by |
| 17 | | the Illinois
Association for Supervision and Curriculum |
| 18 | | Development in 1994; and was the recipient of the Evelyn Cobb |
| 19 | | Service Award for meritorious service to the McLean County
|
| 20 | | Compact in 2011; therefore, be it
|
| 21 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 22 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 23 | | we congratulate Robert Dean on his retirement and wish him well |
