|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of former |
4 | | State Senator Robert Mitchler, who passed away on April 19, |
5 | | 2012; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, He leaves behind a legacy of community service, a |
7 | | career as a politician and businessman, and a life as an |
8 | | advocate of the military and the veterans who proudly served |
9 | | their country; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, He proudly served his country in the United States |
11 | | Navy during World War II, with assignments including amphibious |
12 | | and minesweeping operations; in the Korean War, he served as a |
13 | | Chief Petty Officer; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, He rose through the ranks of the United States |
15 | | Navy and was assigned to the United Nations Military Armistice |
16 | | Command as a stenographer at the Panmunjom armistice talks; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, He was very politically active in his community, |
18 | | serving as a Precinct Committeeman for 60 years and as an |
19 | | Illinois State Senator from 1964 to 1981; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, During his tenure as Senator, Governor Jim |

1 | | Thompson appointed him to serve as the Legislative Liaison to |
2 | | the Illinois Department of Veteran Affairs; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, He was also appointed by Governor Jim Edgar to the |
4 | | rank of Permanent Captain in the Illinois Naval Militia as |
5 | | Military and Naval Aide and subsequently reappointed by |
6 | | Governor George Ryan; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, He was a life member of the Aurora Masonic Lodge |
8 | | No. 254 A.F. & A. M., a 32nd degree life member of the Scottish |
9 | | Rite Order, and the First Ceremonial Master of the Tebala |
10 | | Shrine in Rockford; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, He was the driving force behind the establishment |
12 | | of the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps unit at East |
13 | | Aurora High School; and |
14 | | WHEREAS, He served as the National Director of the Navy |
15 | | League and was elected as the National Director Emeritus, the |
16 | | Vice-President of the Kendall County Republican Central |
17 | | Committee, the Kendall County Young Republican Organization, |
18 | | the Illinois Republican Veterans League, the Illinois Police |
19 | | Association, and as a member of the Board of Trustees for |
20 | | Jennings Terrace in Aurora; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, John and |
|

1 | | Clara Mitchler; his sister, Helen Virginia Mitchler; his |
2 | | brother, William G. Mitchler; and his daughter-in-law, Maria |
3 | | Aragon; and

4 | | WHEREAS, Former State Senator Robert Mitchler is survived |
5 | | by his wife, Helen Mitchler; his children, John (Kathy) |
6 | | Mitchler, Kurt (Sharon Buntain) Mitchler, and Heidi (Daniel) |
7 | | Lyjak; his grandchildren, Briana, Scott, Haley, Joseph, |
8 | | Natalie, Olivia, Matthew, Garrick, and Trevor; his |
9 | | sister-in-law, Cecile Mitchler; as well as several nieces and |
10 | | nephews; therefore, be it

11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
12 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
13 | | we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of |
14 | | former Senator Robert Mitchler; we remember this great man who |
15 | | faithfully served his community and the State of Illinois for |
16 | | many years; and be it further

17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
18 | | presented to the family of former State Senator Robert Mitchler |
19 | | as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
