2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Rev. Fr. John A. |
4 | | Jamnicky on the occasion of his 40th anniversary in the |
5 | | priesthood; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Fr. John Jamnicky was born on the southeast side |
7 | | of Chicago in 1945; he was educated in the Chicago Catholic |
8 | | school system and attended St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in |
9 | | Mundelein; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Fr. John Jamnicky was ordained a priest of the |
11 | | Archdiocese of Chicago in 1972; he served as pastor of St. |
12 | | Martin Church and School, an inner-city parish on Chicago's |
13 | | south side, for 10 years; from 1982 to 2000, he served as the |
14 | | senior Catholic airport chaplain in the United States and |
15 | | administrator and Catholic chaplain of the O'Hare Airport at |
16 | | Chicago O'Hare International Airport; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, In 2006, Fr. Jamnicky became the founding pastor |
18 | | of the newest Catholic parish in the Archdiocese of Chicago, |
19 | | St. Raphael the Archangel in Old Mill Creek; he celebrated his |
20 | | first Mass at St. Raphael the Archangel on September 1, 2007; |

1 | | WHEREAS, During his career, Fr. John Jamnicky has been |
2 | | involved in chaplaincy programs at San Quentin Prison in |
3 | | California and Cook County Jail in Chicago; he has spent time |
4 | | as a chaplain at the Department of Psychiatry of Rush |
5 | | Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago and the North |
6 | | Chicago Veterans Administration Hospital; he served as |
7 | | president of the International Association of Civil Aviation |
8 | | Chaplains; he was the president of the National Catholic |
9 | | Conference of Airport Chaplains from 1986 to 1996; he also |
10 | | served as a chaplain in the Illinois Air National Guard and the |
11 | | United States Air Force from 1984 to 1989; in January of 1995, |
12 | | he earned his Certified Airport Chaplain certificate from the |
13 | | United States Catholic Conference; he also serves as a chaplain |
14 | | and board member for several agencies and organizations, |
15 | | including the Antioch Fire Department, Waukegan Regional |
16 | | Airport, the Port of Waukegan, Maritime Ministries of Lake |
17 | | County, the Slovak American Charitable Association, and |
18 | | WSFI-88.5 FM Catholic Radio; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Fr. John Jamnicky served as a Certified Field |
20 | | Education Supervisor for St. Mary of the Lake Seminary, the |
21 | | Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, and the Garret |
22 | | Evangelical United Methodist Seminary in Evanston; from 2001 to |
23 | | 2006, he served as Coordinator for Human Mobility Apostolates |
24 | | and the National Director of the Apostleship of the Sea at the |
25 | | United States Conference of Catholic Bishops in the Office for |

1 | | the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Refugees; and |
2 | | WHEREAS, Fr. John Jamnicky has appeared in several |
3 | | newspaper articles and radio and television programs, |
4 | | including "20/20" and the "Phil Donahue Show"; he has appeared |
5 | | in an article in The Smithsonian Institute's Air and Space |
6 | | magazine; he has published articles in American Airlines' |
7 | | magazine American Way; in 1997, his book, "Ministry of the |
8 | | Moment: A Manual for Developing an Airport Chaplaincy Program" |
9 | | was published through the United States Conference Publishing |
10 | | Services in Washington, D.C.; therefore, be it

11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
12 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
13 | | we congratulate Rev. Fr. John A. Jamnicky on the occasion of |
14 | | his 40th anniversary in the priesthood and wish him continued |
15 | | success and happiness in the future; and be it further

16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
17 | | presented to Fr. John Jamnicky as a symbol of our esteem and |
18 | | respect.
