2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Lacy J. |
4 | | Banks; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Lacy Banks held the distinction of being the first |
6 | | African-American sportswriter at the Chicago Sun-Times; he |
7 | | joined the Sun-Times in 1972 and began covering the Chicago |
8 | | Bulls in the mid-1980s; during his career, he covered Michael |
9 | | Jordan's entire NBA career, including all six of the Bulls' |
10 | | championships, and he covered the Bulls into the postseason in |
11 | | 2011; and

12 | | WHEREAS, In addition to his career as a sportswriter, Lacy |
13 | | Banks was also a long-time Baptist preacher; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Lacy Banks is survived by his wife, Joyce; his 3 |
15 | | daughters; and his 5 grandchildren; therefore, be it
|
16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
17 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
18 | | we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of |
19 | | Lacy J. Banks; and be it further
