| 2 | | WHEREAS, Millions of Cambodians were killed from
1975 to |
| 3 | | 1979 as part of a systematic genocide by the Khmer Rouge; many |
| 4 | | of these murders were performed at sites now known as the |
| 5 | | Killing Fields; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, In order to provide hope and renewal to the |
| 7 | | survivors and to the Cambodian community at large, the |
| 8 | | Cambodian-American community remembers and pays tribute to |
| 9 | | those lost in the Killing Fields; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Kompha Seth, President and Co-Founder of the |
| 11 | | Cambodian Association of Illinois, and Dary Mien, Executive |
| 12 | | Director of the Cambodian Association of Illinois, have worked |
| 13 | | tirelessly to ensure that we remember those who were lost and |
| 14 | | those who will forever bear the scars from this atrocity, and |
| 15 | | to educate Illinoisans on the rich culture and history of the |
| 16 | | Cambodian-American community; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, It is fitting and proper for the members of this |
| 18 | | body to join with the Cambodian-American community in |
| 19 | | remembering those who were lost to the Khmer Rouge regime; |
