2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of ABLE | ||||||
4 | Central-Western Region, Naperville Chapter, for its many | ||||||
5 | achievements as an Employee Business Partner in | ||||||
6 | Alcatel-Lucent; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, The Association of Black Laboratories Employees, | ||||||
8 | Inc., (ABLE) was formed in 1970 to address placement and | ||||||
9 | promotional concerns of black Bell Laboratories employees; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, In January of 1985, ABLE, the Committee of AT&T | ||||||
11 | Employees, and the Employee Focus Group (EFG) of AT&T | ||||||
12 | Communications merged to form the Alliance of Black | ||||||
13 | Telecommunications Employees, Inc.; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, In September of 2000, ABLE divested again into 2 | ||||||
15 | entities, the Alliance of Black Lucent Employees, Inc., (ABLE) | ||||||
16 | and the Alliance of Black Leaders of Avaya (ABL), to align with | ||||||
17 | Lucent's spin-off of Avaya; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, In December of 2006, ABLE incorporated Leaders of | ||||||
19 | African Descent as part of its name to align with the merger of | ||||||
20 | Alcatel and Lucent Technologies to form Alcatel-Lucent; and

1 | WHEREAS, ABLE's goal is to develop a climate that supports | ||||||
2 | all employees in realizing their full potential, thereby making | ||||||
3 | Alcatel-Lucent a more successful enterprise and a more | ||||||
4 | wholesome place to work; and

5 | WHEREAS, ABLE is served by a nationally-elected Board of | ||||||
6 | Directors and has 3 operating regions: Eastern, Southern, and | ||||||
7 | Central/Western; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, ABLE's national and local chapter programming | ||||||
9 | occurs in support of 6 strategic thrusts: professional | ||||||
10 | development, community action, networking, economic | ||||||
11 | development, affirmative action advocacy, and spiritual | ||||||
12 | enrichment; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Over the years, a significant improvement in the | ||||||
14 | quality of work life allowed ABLE Central-Western Region to | ||||||
15 | extend its focus to include self-help and community | ||||||
16 | involvement; and | ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, The ABLE Central-Western Region, Naperville | ||||||
18 | Chapter, serves as a model of diversity programming, community | ||||||
19 | outreach, and professional development for the people of the | ||||||
20 | State of Illinois; therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

1 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
2 | we congratulate the members of the ABLE Central-Western Region, | ||||||
3 | Naperville Chapter, for its many accomplishments as an Employee | ||||||
4 | Business Partner in Alcatel-Lucent and thank the organization | ||||||
5 | for serving as an advocate in the African-American community | ||||||
6 | and as a source of quality diversity programming, especially | ||||||
7 | during Black History Month; and be it further
| ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
9 | presented to the ABLE Central-Western Region, Naperville | ||||||
10 | Chapter, as a symbol of our high regard and respect.
