HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of ABLE Central-Western Region, Naperville Chapter, for its many achievements as an Employee Business Partner in Alcatel-Lucent; and

WHEREAS, The Association of Black Laboratories Employees, Inc., (ABLE) was formed in 1970 to address placement and promotional concerns of black Bell Laboratories employees; and

WHEREAS, In January of 1985, ABLE, the Committee of AT&T Employees, and the Employee Focus Group (EFG) of AT&T Communications merged to form the Alliance of Black Telecommunications Employees, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, In September of 2000, ABLE divested again into 2 entities, the Alliance of Black Lucent Employees, Inc., (ABLE) and the Alliance of Black Leaders of Avaya (ABL), to align with Lucent's spin-off of Avaya; and

WHEREAS, In December of 2006, ABLE incorporated Leaders of African Descent as part of its name to align with the merger of Alcatel and Lucent Technologies to form Alcatel-Lucent; and

WHEREAS, ABLE's goal is to develop a climate that supports all employees in realizing their full potential, thereby making Alcatel-Lucent a more successful enterprise and a more wholesome place to work; and

WHEREAS, ABLE is served by a nationally-elected Board of Directors and has 3 operating regions: Eastern, Southern, and Central/Western; and

WHEREAS, ABLE's national and local chapter programming occurs in support of 6 strategic thrusts: professional development, community action, networking, economic development, affirmative action advocacy, and spiritual enrichment; and

WHEREAS, Over the years, a significant improvement in the quality of work life allowed ABLE Central-Western Region to extend its focus to include self-help and community involvement; and

WHEREAS, The ABLE Central-Western Region, Naperville Chapter, serves as a model of diversity programming, community outreach, and professional development for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the members of the ABLE Central-Western Region, Naperville Chapter, for its many accomplishments as an Employee Business Partner in Alcatel-Lucent and thank the organization for serving as an advocate in the African-American community and as a source of quality diversity programming, especially during Black History Month; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the ABLE Central-Western Region, Naperville Chapter, as a symbol of our high regard and respect.
