2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate John T. Hooker, | ||||||
4 | Executive Vice President, Legislative and External Affairs of | ||||||
5 | Commonwealth Edison Company, who is retiring after forty-four | ||||||
6 | years of service to the company; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Mr. Hooker, who started in the ComEd mailroom in | ||||||
8 | 1968, has epitomized the American spirit of hard work and | ||||||
9 | steadfast dedication to create a better life for himself, his | ||||||
10 | wife, Kim, his family, and his community; he has been | ||||||
11 | instrumental in helping ComEd build bridges to the community it | ||||||
12 | serves and to better represent the diversity of its 3.6 million | ||||||
13 | customers; and | ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Mr. Hooker has become one of the most respected | ||||||
15 | policy advocates in Springfield, known by all for his honesty, | ||||||
16 | integrity, ability to work with all sides of an issue, and an | ||||||
17 | unending personal dedication to make Illinois a better place | ||||||
18 | for all; and | ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Mr. Hooker has been a key advocate for the reform, | ||||||
20 | revitalization, and restructuring of the State's electric | ||||||
21 | industry and the modernization of the State's electric | ||||||
22 | infrastructure, and other important policy initiatives; and

1 | WHEREAS, Prior to his appointment as executive vice | ||||||
2 | president, he served as
senior vice president of Legislative & | ||||||
3 | Governmental Affairs and was responsible for managing
ComEd's | ||||||
4 | relationships with the Chicago City Council, the Illinois | ||||||
5 | General Assembly, and other State
agencies; previous to that | ||||||
6 | position, he served as senior vice president of Legislative & | ||||||
7 | External Affairs for
ComEd; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, At the same time he served as vice president, | ||||||
9 | Property Management, Exelon Energy
Delivery, with | ||||||
10 | responsibility for facilities, real estate, and claims at both | ||||||
11 | ComEd and Philadelphia-based
sister company PECO Energy; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, John T. Hooker is noted for his many "Hookerisms" | ||||||
13 | of which one highlights his professional career, "will make it | ||||||
14 | work"; and | ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, He has served in numerous ComEd departments for 44 | ||||||
16 | years, holding management positions in
industrial relations, | ||||||
17 | marketing, governmental, and regulatory affairs; his expertise | ||||||
18 | was instrumental to
the passage of Illinois' Customer Choice | ||||||
19 | Law of 1997; he is a founding member of the Exelon African | ||||||
20 | American Members' Association (EAAMA); founded in 1990, the | ||||||
21 | organization focuses on building members' individual growth | ||||||
22 | opportunities within
the company; and

1 | WHEREAS, He serves on the board of directors of the Chicago | ||||||
2 | State University Foundation; the Peoples Consumer Cooperative; | ||||||
3 | the Safer Foundation;
Junior Achievement; and The
African | ||||||
4 | American Legacy Initiative; he is a member of the American | ||||||
5 | Association of Black in Energy, an organization devoted to
| ||||||
6 | increasing the number of blacks and other minorities in | ||||||
7 | energy-related fields; he also is a member of
Chicago State | ||||||
8 | University's Business Hall of Fame committee, and is involved | ||||||
9 | with the Chicago Public
Schools Youth Motivation Program; | ||||||
10 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
12 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
13 | we congratulate John T. Hooker on his retirement and wish him | ||||||
14 | the best in his future endeavors; and be it further
| ||||||
15 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
16 | presented to John T. Hooker as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
17 | esteem.
