HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Irene Vicich on the 
4occasion of her 100th birthday on May 30, 2012; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Irene Vicich was born on May 30, 1912, in Thayer; 
6she is the oldest of the 8 children of Anna and Luke Maynerich; 
7and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, In 1926, 14-year-old Irene Vicich and her cousin 
9moved to Chicago; she completed her schooling at the end of 8th 
10grade; during her life, she worked at many jobs, including a 
11job making neckties in a storefront window in Ohio and working 
12at a peanut butter factory in Chicago; she subsequently worked 
13at Phoenix Closure for 25 years until her retirement in 1977; 
14she also served as a union steward at Phoenix; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, Irene Vicich married her sweetheart, Joseph 
16Vicich, on September 4, 1937; together, they had 2 children, 
17Joesph Jr. and Arleen, 3 grandchildren, and 2 
18great-grandchildren; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Irene Vicich is a member of numerous 
20organizations, including Jolly Seniors, AARP Chapter 4720, the 
21Civic Club, Lodge 32, the Heritage Club, the 23rd Ward Seniors,

1the Moose Lodge, Spa. St. Anne's, and Golden Ages at St. 
2Richards; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Irene Vicich enjoys music, dancing, telling 
4jokes, and playing bingo; she is fondly referred to as "Bingo 
5Irene" by her friends; and
  
 
6    WHEREAS, Irene Vicich will host her 100th birthday party at 
7European Chalet in Chicago on June 3, 2012; therefore, be it
  
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 
9NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
10we congratulate Irene Vicich on the occasion of her 100th 
11birthday and wish her many happy and healthy years to come; and 
12be it further
  
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
14presented to Irene Vicich as a symbol of our esteem and 
15respect.
