HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Charles
4E. Mingo of Chicago, who passed away on February 2, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born on June 27, 1941 in McComb,
6Mississippi to Frank L. Mingo, Sr. and Cornelia E. Mingo (nee
7Dillon); he moved to Chicago as a child; he attended Northern
8Illinois University, where he received a B.S. in Zoology; and
 
9    WHEREAS, He was a founding member of the Northern Illinois
10University Epsilon Omicron chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi
11Fraternity; in 1966, he married Janet Mingo (nee
12Bailey-Murray); he earned a Master's in Biology from Chicago
13State University; and
 
14    WHEREAS, He began his educational career as a biology
15teacher at Harlan High School; later, he progressed into
16educational administrative roles as an Assistant Principal at
17Austin High School and Whitney Young High School, which he
18co-founded; additionally, he worked as a District
19Administrator for the Chicago Public Schools Central District
20before becoming Principal of Du Sable High School in Chicago
21and Beckham Middle School in Gary, Indiana; and

1    WHEREAS, During his career, he won numerous awards
2including the prestigious Miliken Award for Excellence in
3Education in 1993; and
 
4    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his
5brother, Frank L. Mingo, Jr.; and his sister-in-law, Sheila
6Mingo; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Charles Mingo is survived by his wife, Janet; his
8children, Jennifer, Nathalie, Jeffery, and Dana; his brother,
9Clifton "Tip" Mingo; his sister-in-law, Suziet Mingo; his 2
10aunts; his mother-in-law; and his many cousins, nephews, and
11nieces; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
15Charles Mingo; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Charles Mingo as a symbol of our
18sincere sympathy.
