2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of William |
4 | | Henry Schroeder of Long Lake, who passed away on December 17, |
5 | | 2011; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, He was born in Libertyville on February 28, 1929, |
7 | | the son of the late Lydia and Marshall Schroeder; he graduated |
8 | | from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and was staff |
9 | | sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, William, along with his father, Marshall R. |
11 | | Schroeder, founded Lakeland Newspapers in 1956 and was a |
12 | | charter member of the Suburban Press Foundation (SPF), |
13 | | predecessor to Suburban Newspapers of America; he was president |
14 | | of the Illinois Press Association (IPA); he organized and began |
15 | | the Illinois Press Foundation (IPF) and was also involved with |
16 | | the Suburban Newspapers of America; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, He was recognized for numerous journalism |
18 | | accomplishments during his 55-year newspaper career; he |
19 | | received the Illinois Press Association's "Best in State" |
20 | | newspapers honors 3 times; he also won the 2002 CHINFO award |
21 | | for the best military newspaper in the world and helped locate |
22 | | and finance the Illinois Press Association's headquarters in |

1 | | Springfield; he was also the winner of the 2003 SNA Dean |
2 | | Lescher national award for lifetime journalism achievements; |
3 | | and

4 | | WHEREAS, He was active in many Lake County chambers of |
5 | | commerce, the Navy League, the Illinois Press Foundation Board |
6 | | of Directors, served the Lake County Fair as historian, the Red |
7 | | Cross, and the Long Lake Yacht Club, where he served as |
8 | | Commodore and Judge; he also served on the boards of Condell |
9 | | Hospital, Fox Lake State Bank, and Carmel Catholic High School; |
10 | | and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, His favorite hobbies were gardening, boating, |
12 | | reading, music, and rooting for the Chicago Cubs; and |
13 | | WHEREAS, William Schroeder is survived by his wife of |
14 | | almost 50 years, Nancy; his children, William (Lisa), Jill |
15 | | (Bill) McDermott, Karen (Jim) Miller, and Robert (Elise); his |
16 | | grandchildren, Erika, John, Alexandra, Nicole, Thomas, |
17 | | Caroline, Marshall, and William; and his brother, Robert |
18 | | (Elizabeth) Schroeder; therefore, be it

19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
20 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
21 | | we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of |
22 | | William Schroeder; and be it further
