| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Bill Mitchell for |
| 4 | | receiving the "2011 Best High School Blood Drive Coordinator |
| 5 | | Award" from the Illinois Coalition of Community Blood Centers; |
| 6 | | and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, In 2007, Bill Mitchell took over the organization |
| 8 | | of the annual spring Student Council blood drive at East Leyden |
| 9 | | High School; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, A second yearly blood drive in the fall was soon |
| 11 | | added to East Leyden's schedule at Bill's request;
and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Under Bill's innovative leadership, the donations |
| 13 | | collected at East Leyden High School's blood drives have risen |
| 14 | | dramatically and are now well more than double what they were |
| 15 | | when he began;
and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, East Leyden's faculty and staff have donated over |
| 17 | | 1,330 units of blood at the school drives Bill has overseen;
|
| 18 | | and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, The success in Bill's drives lies in the |
| 20 | | enthusiasm he has generated among students through his |
|

| 1 | | creativity in turning the blood drives into "theatrical |
| 2 | | productions" in which student volunteers feel that they are |
| 3 | | part of a cast playing various roles to manage the various |
| 4 | | aspects of the drives; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Several East Leyden High School Alumni have gone |
| 6 | | on to achieve placement in pharmacy school and Harvard |
| 7 | | University as a result of scholarship money that was awarded to |
| 8 | | the high school because of its successful blood drives; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, The results of Bill's efforts will continue to be |
| 10 | | seen for years to come because of the critical role high school |
| 11 | | blood drives play in cultivating lifetime donors; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, In 2011, LifeSource, Chicagoland's Blood Center, |
| 13 | | nominated Bill Mitchell as the "Best High School Blood Drive |
| 14 | | Coordinator" in a state-wide competition hosted by the Illinois |
| 15 | | Coalition of Community Blood Centers; therefore, be it
|
| 16 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 17 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 18 | | we commend Bill Mitchell for his selfless service to his |
| 19 | | community and his strong commitment to his students; and be it |
| 20 | | further
