2 | | WHEREAS, It is somewhat uncommon for an Illinois resident |
3 | | to be the subject of 2 congratulatory resolutions enacted by |
4 | | the Illinois House of Representatives; and

5 | | WHEREAS, A previous resolution, passed by the House, |
6 | | saluted the conclusion of Charles Wheeler III's excellent |
7 | | career in journalism and expressed warm wishes for a good start |
8 | | in an academic career; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Another milestone has brought on a public clamor |
10 | | for a second resolution to reprise Charles Wheeler III's life's |
11 | | work and extend him best wishes on his 70th birthday; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Charles Wheeler III's life's work was highlighted |
13 | | by such feats as doing play-by-play of all 154 Milwaukee Braves |
14 | | games in 1954 for siblings and friends, using little more than |
15 | | a fertile imagination and an All-Star baseball spinner board; |
16 | | and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Charles Wheeler III graduated from St. Mary's |
18 | | College and the Medill School of Journalism and labored for 3 |
19 | | years with the Peace Corps in Panama before stepping into the |
20 | | footprints left by 2 respected newspaper men, his father and |
21 | | grandfather; and

1 | | WHEREAS, After 24 years of awarding winning coverage of |
2 | | Illinois government and politics, skillful leadership of the |
3 | | Illinois Legislative Correspondents Association, and crafty |
4 | | guidance of the dearly departed ILCA Gridiron Show, Charles |
5 | | Wheeler III set his sights on higher education; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Over the last 18 years, Charles Wheeler III has |
7 | | led the University of Illinois Public Affairs Reporting |
8 | | Program, which has graduated 500 master's students, and has |
9 | | continued to report and write a monthly column for Illinois |
10 | | Issues Magazine, which has earned him 4 national Capitolbeat |
11 | | Awards; these cumulative distinctions also convinced the |
12 | | Illinois AP Editors to induct him into the Lincoln League of |
13 | | Journalists; therefore, be it

14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
15 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
16 | | we salute Charles N. Wheeler III for a distinguished career, |
17 | | extend our best wishes for a festive birthday celebration at |
18 | | the Governor's Mansion, and declare that, due to his efforts, |
19 | | the State of Illinois is a better place; and be it further

20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
21 | | presented to Charles Wheeler III as a symbol of our esteem and |
22 | | respect.
