HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to honor the Girl Scouts Councils
4of Illinois and the Girl Scouts of the USA on their 100th year
5anniversary celebration; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of the USA was founded in Savannah,
7Georgia on March 12, 1912 by Juliette "Daisy" Gordon Low with
8the mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and
9character who make the world a better place; and
 
10    WHEREAS, 2012 has been dedicated to celebrating 100 years
11of Girl Scouting and has been named "The Year of the Girl"; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The Year of the Girl will kick off in Houston,
13Texas on November 8, 2011 with the National Council
14Session/52nd Convention titled "Renewing the Promise: Girl
15Scouts in a New Century"; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of Central Illinois, Girl Scouts of
17Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois, Inc., Girl Scouts of Greater
18Chicago and Northwest Indiana, Girl Scouts of Northern
19Illinois, and Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois are comprised of
20150,000 Girl Scout members and leaders throughout the State of
21Illinois; and

1    WHEREAS, All Councils will participate in activities
2acknowledging the 100th anniversary, including various
3community service projects and outreach programs and also Girl
4Scout Forever Green, Girl Scouts 100th Anniversary Take Action
5Project; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Illinois' Girl Scouts Councils are invited to
7participate in a Girl Scout Day at the State Capitol on May 2,
82012, where girls from across the State of Illinois can
9celebrate 100 years of Girl Scouting with a parade in downtown
10Springfield and a rally on the State Capitol steps; therefore,
11be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we honor the Girl Scout Councils of Illinois and Girl Scouts of
15the USA's 100th year anniversary, and their continued work in
16building girls of courage, confidence, and character; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to each of the Girl Scout Councils in Illinois as a
20symbol of our esteem and respect.
