2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the crew of the |
4 | | Polish LOT Airlines flight that successfully landed a Boeing |
5 | | 767 without the use of landing gear and without any casualties |
6 | | aboard the flight; and

7 | | WHEREAS, During a flight from Newark, New Jersey to Warsaw, |
8 | | Poland, a Polish LOT Airlines flight, carrying 231 passengers, |
9 | | encountered a problem with the plane's hydraulic system that |
10 | | kept the landing gear from deploying; without being able to use |
11 | | any of the plane's 3 wheels, the plane would have to land on |
12 | | its belly, a dangerous situation that makes it impossible to |
13 | | change the plane's direction after it sets down on the tarmac |
14 | | and difficult to land safely; and

15 | | WHEREAS, Despite not having any operable wheels on the |
16 | | aircraft, Tadeusz Wrona, the captain of the LOT aircraft, and |
17 | | his crew decided to continue the flight to Warsaw's Frederic |
18 | | Chopin airport and attempt to land, in order to decrease the |
19 | | risk of fire by using up the plane's heavy fuel load; once they |
20 | | arrived in Warsaw, the crew was able to land the aircraft on |
21 | | its belly so smoothly that many on board thought it had landed |
22 | | on its wheels; the plane suffered no major structural damage |
23 | | and there were no casualties; and
