2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the nursing staff | ||||||
4 | at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn for their many achievements in | ||||||
5 | the field of nursing; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The nurses at MacNeal Hospital believe that they | ||||||
7 | can contribute to improvements in policies and management of | ||||||
8 | health systems and services; they have already provided a | ||||||
9 | tremendous service in improving the education levels of nurses | ||||||
10 | at their hospital so that they can better help solve the root | ||||||
11 | of the nursing shortage in Illinois, which is a shortage of | ||||||
12 | nurse teachers; 115 MacNeal nurses have returned to school for | ||||||
13 | either their bachelor's degree or their master's degree in | ||||||
14 | nursing, which is funded by the hospital and the Illinois | ||||||
15 | Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity; the | ||||||
16 | hospital's graduate school prepared nurses have made a | ||||||
17 | commitment to teach in the local nursing schools to help | ||||||
18 | increase the number of nursing students that Illinois can | ||||||
19 | produce; and

20 | WHEREAS, The nurses at MacNeal Hospital have worked | ||||||
21 | tirelessly to reduce the gap between the ethnicities they serve | ||||||
22 | and the ethnicities of the nurses that serve them; by reaching | ||||||
23 | out to the community and creating a nondiscriminatory climate, |

1 | they have increased their Hispanic Latino nurse employees from | ||||||
2 | 6% to 16% - a great achievement when only 3% of nurses | ||||||
3 | nationwide are Hispanic or Latino; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, The nurses at MacNeal Hospital donate countless | ||||||
5 | hours towards community service, having doubled their | ||||||
6 | collective volunteer hours every year; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, The nurses at MacNeal Hospital seek to achieve | ||||||
8 | Magnet status, the gold standard in healthcare, from the | ||||||
9 | American Nurses' Credentialing Center; they have raised the bar | ||||||
10 | by improving the outcomes of their patients above the national | ||||||
11 | benchmarks by focusing on professional development, | ||||||
12 | interdisciplinary collaboration, leadership, and clinical | ||||||
13 | practice; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, The nursing staff at MacNeal Hospital serve as | ||||||
15 | models of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people | ||||||
16 | of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
18 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
19 | we congratulate the nursing staff at MacNeal Hospital for their | ||||||
20 | many achievements in the field of nursing and wish them | ||||||
21 | continued success and happiness in the future; and be it | ||||||
