| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Home Instead Senior Care and partners from various | ||||||
| 3 | non-profit agencies and businesses that provide services to | ||||||
| 4 | senior adults throughout the year combine their efforts every | ||||||
| 5 | year for the "Be a Santa to a Senior" community service | ||||||
| 6 | program; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, The volunteers of the "Be a Santa to a Senior" | ||||||
| 8 | program make a positive impact on their communities by | ||||||
| 9 | providing much-needed holiday cheer and giving of gifts to | ||||||
| 10 | those senior adults who are least likely to receive presents | ||||||
| 11 | during the holiday season and for those who are lonely or have | ||||||
| 12 | financial difficulties; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, The "Be a Santa to a Senior" program and its | ||||||
| 14 | volunteers donate their valuable time to eliminate the | ||||||
| 15 | heartbreak of holiday isolation felt by senior adults in this | ||||||
| 16 | State; nearly 28 percent of the 1,532,373 people over the age | ||||||
| 17 | of 65 in Illinois live alone, with 441,869 total senior adults | ||||||
| 18 | at risk of being lonely; these people can benefit from the | ||||||
| 19 | generous outreach efforts of the "Be a Santa to a Senior" | ||||||
| 20 | program; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Home Instead Senior Care and the partners involved | ||||||
| 22 | with "Be a Santa to a Senior" share the belief that senior | ||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | adults should not be alone or forgotten during the holidays and | ||||||
| 2 | that senior adults are instrumental in defining the communities | ||||||
| 3 | we live in; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, The participants in the "Be a Santa to a Senior" | ||||||
| 5 | program intend to recognize and celebrate our senior adults and | ||||||
| 6 | the invaluable contributions they continue to make to our | ||||||
| 7 | cities, this State, and the world at large; and
| ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, The citizens of the State of Illinois recognize | ||||||
| 9 | that our diverse population is committed to improving the | ||||||
| 10 | well-being and serenity of our communities, as well as placing | ||||||
| 11 | a greater focus on our lonely elders through the "Be a Santa to | ||||||
| 12 | a Senior" program; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 14 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 15 | we congratulate and thank the members of the "Be a Santa to a | ||||||
| 16 | Senior" program for its contributions to the senior adults of | ||||||
| 17 | this State; and be it further
| ||||||
| 18 | RESOLVED, That we designate the month of December 2011 as | ||||||
| 19 | Be a Santa to a Senior Month in the State of Illinois in | ||||||
| 20 | recognition of this wonderful program; and be it further | ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||

| 1 | presented to a representative of the "Be a Santa to a Senior" | ||||||
| 2 | program as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
