2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Selfreliance

4 | Ukrainian American Federal Credit Union (SUAFCU) on
60 years of | ||||||
5 | service; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Selfreliance
Ukrainian American Federal Credit | ||||||
7 | Union (SUAFCU) celebrated
60 years of service on September 21, | ||||||
8 | 2011; the organization has helped
countless Ukrainian families | ||||||
9 | and businesses in the State of
Illinois live the American | ||||||
10 | dream; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, SUAFCU was founded on May 12, 1951, by Anton | ||||||
12 | Artymowycz,
Roman Mycyk,
Alexander Atanowsky,
Stefan | ||||||
13 | Sambirsky,
Bohdan Bilynsky,
Elias Semianczuk,
Joseph Datzko,
| ||||||
14 | Walter Tymciurak,
Gregory Masnyk,
and Elias Wytanowycz
as a | ||||||
15 | financial cooperative whose mission
was to benefit local | ||||||
16 | members of the Ukrainian American community; and | ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, The men signed the Organization Certificate of | ||||||
18 | Selfreliance Federal Credit Union and the Certificate was | ||||||
19 | approved on June 20, 1951 by the Director of the Bureau of | ||||||
20 | Federal Credit Unions; on July 2, 1951, William T. Breitzke, | ||||||
21 | representing the Illinois Credit Union League, presented | ||||||
22 | Federal Credit Union Charter #7346 to the credit union's newly |

1 | elected board of directors; and | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Selfreliance
Ukrainian American Federal Credit | ||||||
3 | Union is open
to anyone of Ukrainian descent or members of | ||||||
4 | other Ukrainian
organizations, SUAFCU stays very focused on its | ||||||
5 | original mission; the
democratic tenets to which the Union | ||||||
6 | strictly adheres make it a unique
institution that provides an | ||||||
7 | example of what hard working communities
can achieve; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, During its first 15 years, SUAFCU was incredibly | ||||||
9 | active, providing
its members with over $4,156,000 in loans; | ||||||
10 | thanks to the responsible
lending practices of this community, | ||||||
11 | many Ukrainian doctors, dentists,
and veterinarians were able | ||||||
12 | to found successful practices; dozens of
other businesses | ||||||
13 | opened thanks to SUAFCU, but just as important, 1200
families | ||||||
14 | were able to purchase homes in the Chicago area; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, This
community came together to exemplify the | ||||||
16 | American dream through smart
practices and a closely-knit | ||||||
17 | community; around these businesses, the "Ukrainian Village" | ||||||
18 | prospered into a
network of interconnected community | ||||||
19 | organizations including cultural
and social clubs and | ||||||
20 | churches; SUAFCU works closely with churches and
others to | ||||||
21 | ensure the assimilation process is less difficult for
Ukrainian | ||||||
22 | immigrants, a population that brings diversity and new ideas
to | ||||||
23 | the area; and

1 | WHEREAS, SUAFCU continues to prosper and help families and
| ||||||
2 | businesses under current President and CEO Bohdan Watral and | ||||||
3 | Chairman
of the Board of Directors Michael Kos, two strong | ||||||
4 | advocates for
Ukrainian Americans; therefore, be it
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
6 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
7 | we congratulate the Selfreliance
Ukrainian American Federal | ||||||
8 | Credit Union on their anniversary and wish them the best for | ||||||
9 | years to come; and be it further
| ||||||
10 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
11 | presented to Selfreliance
Ukrainian American Federal Credit | ||||||
12 | Union President and CEO Bohdan Watral and Chairman
of the Board | ||||||
13 | of Directors Michael Kos as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
