2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Jane Hodgkinson on |
4 | | the occasion of her retirement as executive director of the |
5 | | Western DuPage Special Recreation Association (WDSRA); and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Jane Hodgkinson began her advocacy for residents |
7 | | with disabilities in 1981; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, During her 30-year tenure, Jane Hodgkinson lived |
9 | | and breathed the ethic she lived by, "Equal Fun for Everyone", |
10 | | by helping residents with disabilities realize their potential |
11 | | through equal access to recreational opportunities; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, Jane Hodgkinson's exhaustive advocacy for |
13 | | Illinois residents with disabilities included her promotion of |
14 | | legislative measures to ensure expanded funding for special |
15 | | recreation services throughout the State of Illinois; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Jane Hodgkinson's focused commitment to improving |
17 | | the quality of life of residents with disabilities included |
18 | | professional service as a founding board member of the Illinois |
19 | | Special Olympics and in leadership positions with the Illinois |
20 | | Parks and Recreation Association, the Illinois Association of |
21 | | Park Districts, and the Park District Risk Management Agency; |

1 | | she also served as an instructor and trainer for Very Special |
2 | | Arts; and
|
3 | | WHEREAS, Jane Hodgkinson is the co-author of three books: |
4 | | "Introduction to Recreation and Leisure", "Art for All: Making |
5 | | It Happen", and "Volunteers: the Key to Successful Special |
6 | | Olympic Programs"; she also published over 25 articles in |
7 | | numerous professional publications, including Sports 'n |
8 | | Spokes, Athletic Business, and Chicago Special Parent, and the |
9 | | publications of the National Recreation and Park Association, |
10 | | the Florida Recreation and Park Association, and the Illinois |
11 | | Park and Recreation Association; and
|
12 | | WHEREAS, Jane Hodgkinson has served as a board member or |
13 | | chairperson on numerous committees and
organizations, |
14 | | including the Illinois Special Olympics, the Illinois Park and |
15 | | Recreation Association and its Therapeutic Recreation and |
16 | | Administration and Finance Sections, the Illinois Association |
17 | | of Park Districts, the Parents Alliance Employment Project, the |
18 | | University of St. Francis Recreation Advisory Council, the |
19 | | College of DuPage Advisory Board, the Southern Illinois |
20 | | University Chicago Alumni Chapter, the Southern Illinois |
21 | | University Foundation, the Park District Risk Management |
22 | | Agency and its Risk Management Institute, the Marianjoy |
23 | | Rehabilitation Hospital, the National Recreation and Park |
24 | | Association CPRP Examination Board and Gold Medal Award Board, |

10 | | WHEREAS, Jane Hodgkinson's tireless efforts on behalf of |
11 | | special needs residents has earned her well-deserved |
12 | | recognition by her profession, including the Robert Artz Award, |
13 | | the Fellow Award, and the Professional Award from the Illinois |
14 | | Park and Recreation Association, two National Golden Medal |
15 | | Awards from the National Recreation and Park Association, and |
16 | | the Outstanding Women Leader Community Service from the DuPage |
17 | | County YWCA; in 2010, she was named a Legend by the American |
18 | | Academy for Park and Recreation Administration; therefore, be |

20 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
21 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
22 | | we congratulate Jane Hodgkinson on the occasion of her |
23 | | retirement and commend her for her 30 years of distinguished |
24 | | professional service and advocacy to area special needs |
