2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate James Durkan on his | ||||||
4 | retirement as President/CEO of the Community Memorial | ||||||
5 | Foundation in Hinsdale; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Jim Durkan is retiring as President/CEO of | ||||||
7 | Community Memorial Foundation (CMF) effective December 31, | ||||||
8 | 2011; he is a native of Swinford County Mayo, Ireland; County | ||||||
9 | Mayo has a long honored tradition in Irish history; St. Patrick | ||||||
10 | himself is claimed to have spent 40 days and 40 nights on | ||||||
11 | Croagh Patrick praying for the people of Ireland; County Mayo | ||||||
12 | also produced national treasures such as Michael Davitt and | ||||||
13 | James Daley, who instituted social change during England's | ||||||
14 | occupancy; James Durkan is another in the long list of Mayo men | ||||||
15 | who bring honor and distinction for their sense of good will | ||||||
16 | and justice; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Jim Durkan has been with Community Memorial | ||||||
18 | Foundation since its beginning in August 1995, after serving as | ||||||
19 | the President of La Grange Memorial Hospital Foundation for 5 | ||||||
20 | years and working in leadership roles at hospitals on the east | ||||||
21 | coast; under his 16 years of leadership, the Foundation has | ||||||
22 | awarded more than $50 million in grants to organizations | ||||||
23 | serving people in the western suburbs; and

1 | WHEREAS, During his tenure, he guided the launch of the | ||||||
2 | Foundation's Responsive Grants Program, Building | ||||||
3 | Organizational Effectiveness Initiative, and Healthcare Access | ||||||
4 | Program, as well as past grant programs such as the Youth | ||||||
5 | Initiative, Early Childhood Initiative, and Aging Well | ||||||
6 | Program; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, He has worked tirelessly to further the | ||||||
8 | Foundation's mission and develop a spirit of grant-making that | ||||||
9 | is built on making a difference in the community; His | ||||||
10 | unwavering dedication and thoughtful leadership has enabled | ||||||
11 | Community Memorial Foundation to deepen its impact in improving | ||||||
12 | the health and well being of those who live and work in the | ||||||
13 | western suburbs; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Over the years he has also served the community as | ||||||
15 | Board Chair of the West Suburban Chamber of Commerce and | ||||||
16 | Industry and of the Hinsdale Center for the Arts, and served as | ||||||
17 | a board member of the Donors Forum; currently he serves on many | ||||||
18 | boards and advisory committees including the Siragusa Family | ||||||
19 | Foundation, TASC, the DuPage Health Coalition, the Illinois | ||||||
20 | Attorney General's Charitable Advisory Council, and the | ||||||
21 | Illinois Transitional Care Advisory Board; therefore, be it

22 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

1 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
2 | we congratulate James Durkan on his retirement and thank him | ||||||
3 | for his years of service; and be it further
| ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
5 | presented to James Durkan as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
6 | esteem.
