2 | WHEREAS, On June 2, 1910, Mrs. V.H. Sweinnhart paid $16.90 | ||||||
3 | for Chicago Building Permit #21227 to build at 714 W. Sheridan | ||||||
4 | Road (formerly 714 and 716), a six-unit apartment building | ||||||
5 | which was to cost $36,000; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, The building was designed by architect Emery | ||||||
7 | Stanford Hall and constructed by the firm of Marquardt and | ||||||
8 | Brunke;
and | ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, The building, which shows the influence of Prairie | ||||||
10 | Style architecture created in the Chicago area and popular in | ||||||
11 | the first decade of the last century, and boasts flamboyant | ||||||
12 | corner balconies and a Japanese-style double-hipped green tile | ||||||
13 | roof, was occupied by 1911; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, The general partners of 714 Sheridan Venture, an | ||||||
15 | Illinois general partnership and the Developer of Vermillion | ||||||
16 | Condominium, intending to submit the property to the provisions | ||||||
17 | of the Illinois Condominium Property Act, executed that certain | ||||||
18 | Declaration of Condominium Pursuant to the Condominium | ||||||
19 | Property Act on July 24, 1980, which Declaration was duly | ||||||
20 | acknowledged and recorded in the Office of the Recorder of | ||||||
21 | Deeds of Cook County, Illinois, on July 29, 1980, as Document | ||||||
22 | No. 25529858;
and |

1 | WHEREAS, Prior to the first annual meeting of Unit Owners | ||||||
2 | in 1986, the Developer caused the formation of the Vermillion | ||||||
3 | Condominium Association as an Illinois not-for-profit | ||||||
4 | corporation on June 5, 1986;
and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, The Vermillion Condominium Building has now | ||||||
6 | provided comfortable residences for Chicagoans for a century; | ||||||
7 | and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, The building has undergone important renovation | ||||||
9 | and beautification projects in the past 2 years in preparation | ||||||
10 | for its centenary, including extensive landscaping, the | ||||||
11 | addition of period-appropriate lampposts, and the restoration | ||||||
12 | of the terra-cotta arch above the front door, all of which also | ||||||
13 | serve to beautify the street and East Lakeview; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, The residents of the Vermillion Condominium | ||||||
15 | Building, known as "Vermillionaires," have happily maintained | ||||||
16 | a warm sense of community and cooperation among themselves and | ||||||
17 | with their neighbors in East Lakeview; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, The current Vermillionaires, keeping that spirit | ||||||
19 | of community alive, have invited past residents to return to | ||||||
20 | their former building to join the celebration of the centenary | ||||||
21 | of 714 W. Sheridan Road on July 24, 2011, the 31st anniversary |

1 | of the declaration of the building as a condominium; therefore, | ||||||
2 | be it
| ||||||
3 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
4 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
5 | we congratulate the Vermillion Condominium Building and its | ||||||
6 | residents, past and present, for their enrichment of the | ||||||
7 | community and aesthetic life of East Lakeview, Chicago, and we | ||||||
8 | encourage them to continue to do so as this historical building | ||||||
9 | enters its second century; and be it further

10 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
11 | presented to the residents of the Vermillion Condominium | ||||||
12 | Building as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
