| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate the 4th and 5th | ||||||
| 4 | grade students and teachers at Homestead Elementary School in | ||||||
| 5 | Aurora for their outstanding achievement in raising money for | ||||||
| 6 | Haiti earthquake relief efforts; and | ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, In the last year, the world has suffered many | ||||||
| 8 | great tragedies, from the devastating earthquake in Haiti to | ||||||
| 9 | the earthquake in Japan to the most recent tornados tearing | ||||||
| 10 | through the Southern United States; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Doing their part, students at Homestead | ||||||
| 12 | Elementary School have been learning about Haiti and have | ||||||
| 13 | created a mural depicting how Haitians live and how they have | ||||||
| 14 | dealt with the horrible earthquake; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Realizing the extreme conditions currently facing | ||||||
| 16 | people in Haiti, students and teachers embarked on a journey | ||||||
| 17 | partnered with Free the Children to collect and raise money in | ||||||
| 18 | an effort to rebuild schools; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, In just a few short months, students and teachers | ||||||
| 20 | at Homestead Elementary School were able to raise $8,500, which | ||||||
| 21 | is enough to build and furnish a school in Haiti; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Students raised money by having garage sales, | ||||||
| 2 | setting up lemonade stands, and doing chores throughout the | ||||||
| 3 | neighborhood; other students sang, walked dogs, and baby sat to | ||||||
| 4 | help reach their goal; students also passed along donation jars | ||||||
| 5 | throughout the school and local businesses; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, In this tough economic climate, the motivated | ||||||
| 7 | students of Homestead Elementary School were able to meet their | ||||||
| 8 | goal in just a few months, becoming the first school in the | ||||||
| 9 | Free the Children program to raise enough money to build a | ||||||
| 10 | school in Haiti and bolster hope for the new school's | ||||||
| 11 | community; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 13 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 14 | we congratulate the 4th and 5th grade students and teachers at | ||||||
| 15 | Homestead Elementary School in Aurora for their outstanding | ||||||
| 16 | achievement in raising money for a new school in Haiti; and be | ||||||
| 17 | it further

| 18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 19 | presented to the 4th and 5th grade students and teachers at | ||||||
| 20 | Homestead Elementary School in Aurora as a symbol of our esteem | ||||||
| 21 | and respect.
