2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate and thank Dr. Alvin | ||||||
4 | Goldfarb for the many years of service he has provided during | ||||||
5 | his tenure at Western Illinois University; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Alvin Goldfarb was named President of Western | ||||||
7 | Illinois University in March of 2002 by the Western Illinois | ||||||
8 | University Board of Trustees, effective July 1, 2002; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Dr. Goldfarb oversaw the creation of the Western | ||||||
10 | Illinois University Strategic Plan: Higher Values in Higher | ||||||
11 | Education, the WIU-Macomb Master Plan: Campus is the Classroom, | ||||||
12 | and the WIU-Quad Cities Master Plan: Vision 2020, as well as | ||||||
13 | the Technology Strategic Plan; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Dr. Goldfarb was instrumental in the creation of | ||||||
15 | Western Illinois University's first doctoral program in | ||||||
16 | education, as well as new programs in liberal arts and | ||||||
17 | sciences, nursing, engineering, museum studies, forensic | ||||||
18 | chemistry, and emergency management; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, During Dr. Goldfarb's tenure at Western Illinois | ||||||
20 | University, the first building of the Quad Cities Riverfront | ||||||
21 | Campus, the Multicultural Center, Grote Hall, and the DPS |

1 | building were built; in addition, a groundbreaking for the | ||||||
2 | Performing Arts Center and numerous renovations took place, | ||||||
3 | including Memorial Hall, the student side of Hanson Field, the | ||||||
4 | Donald S. Spencer Recreation Center, the Wright House, the | ||||||
5 | Union Bookstore, and the University Union entrance; and | ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Dr. Goldfarb oversaw the successful beginning of | ||||||
7 | the Capital Campaign: Set the Standard: Higher Values in Higher | ||||||
8 | Education; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, During Dr. Goldfarb's tenure, Western Illinois | ||||||
10 | University received numerous accolades for its achievements, | ||||||
11 | including those from The Princeton Review, U.S. News and World | ||||||
12 | Report, GI Jobs, Carnegie Classification, the Presidential | ||||||
13 | Honor Roll for Community Service, the Southern Regional | ||||||
14 | Education Board, and the Educational Trust; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Dr. Goldfarb was instrumental in the creation of | ||||||
16 | the First Year Experience Program and the expanded cost | ||||||
17 | guarantee and received reaffirmation of accreditation from The | ||||||
18 | North Central Association for Western Illinois University | ||||||
19 | until 2021; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Dr. Goldfarb served in leadership roles in many | ||||||
21 | organizations, including chairman of the Summit League | ||||||
22 | Presidents Council, convener of the Illinois Public University |

1 | Presidents and Chancellors Council, chairman of the Illinois | ||||||
2 | Campus Compact, and member of the executive board of The | ||||||
3 | Renaissance Group; he currently serves as a member of the State | ||||||
4 | of Illinois Serve Illinois Commission; and | ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Goldfarb provided noteworthy and exemplary | ||||||
6 | cooperation, leadership, and contributions to the communities | ||||||
7 | of Macomb and the Quad Cities during his tenure, including the | ||||||
8 | formation of the Community University Partnership Program; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Dr. Goldfarb is a co-author of the textbooks | ||||||
10 | "Living Theater: A History" and "Theater: The Lively Art", as | ||||||
11 | well as numerous other scholarly writings; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Dr. Goldfarb provided outstanding service and | ||||||
13 | brought pride to Western Illinois University, the WIU Board of | ||||||
14 | Trustees, and the State of Illinois as a result of his | ||||||
15 | visionary leadership and contributions to higher education; | ||||||
16 | and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, On June 5, 2009, Dr. Goldfarb announced his | ||||||
18 | retirement as President of Western Illinois University, | ||||||
19 | effective June 29, 2011; therefore, be it
| ||||||
20 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
21 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |

1 | we congratulate and thank Dr. Alvin Goldfarb for the invaluable | ||||||
2 | service he has provided during his nine-year tenure to the | ||||||
3 | students, faculty, and staff of Western Illinois University and | ||||||
4 | to the people of the State of Illinois; and be it further
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
6 | presented to Dr. Alvin Goldfarb as a symbol of our esteem and | ||||||
7 | respect.
