| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to commend Glennita A. Williams and |
| 4 | | her work with America's Guardian Angels; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, After her friend's father was deployed to Al |
| 6 | | Kasik, Iraq in 2007, Glennita began working on America's |
| 7 | | Guardian Angels; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, While Major Michael Striverson was in Iraq, |
| 9 | | Glennita emailed him as to what he would like to have while |
| 10 | | stationed overseas and he replied he was craving Hostess |
| 11 | | Twinkies; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Glennita
realized that Major Striverson was |
| 13 | | probably not the only soldier craving something sweet so she |
| 14 | | decided to ask her 5th grade teacher and classmates at McKinley |
| 15 | | School in South Holland to help her send Major Striverson and |
| 16 | | his troops some Hostess products, and named the project |
| 17 | | "Operation Twinkie"; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, In 10 days Glennita and her classmates collected |
| 19 | | and shipped more than 1,000 products for the soldiers in Iraq; |
| 20 | | in the 6th grade, Glennita expanded her project from the |
| 21 | | classroom to the entire school and asked for care items for the |
|

| 1 | | veterans at Edward Hines VA Hospital; hundreds of items were |
| 2 | | collected and more than 160 care packets were made; and
|
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Glennita arranged for the school choir to |
| 4 | | accompany her in passing out the packets and singing songs to |
| 5 | | the veterans; the visit inspired Glennita to show her |
| 6 | | appreciation towards the men and women in the military and one |
| 7 | | month later she was responsible for the collection of more than |
| 8 | | 3,000 Twinkies, along with Starbucks coffee, being shipped to |
| 9 | | Afghanistan and Iraq; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Glennita desired to do more for the soldiers, so |
| 11 | | she asked her community for assistance; now, with help from |
| 12 | | South Holland Mayor Don De Graff and his staff, 19 different |
| 13 | | care items, along with Twinkies, are being collected throughout |
| 14 | | the community; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, What started out as a onetime project from the |
| 16 | | heart of a child has become a mission; Glennita A. Williams is |
| 17 | | now the Founder and President of America's Guardian Angels, a |
| 18 | | foundation that is committed to the men and women serving this |
| 19 | | country; therefore, be it
|
| 20 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 21 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 22 | | we commend Glennita Williams for her hard work and dedication |
