HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, For many decades, the rabbis and synagogues of the
3southern suburbs of Chicago and northwest Indiana have jointly
4sponsored a community-wide Holocaust memorial service that is
5open and free to all peoples of all faiths; and
 
6    WHEREAS, This year, the theme of the memorial service will
7be "Forbidden Music... We Still Remember"; the service will
8feature music composed by three composers interred in
9concentration camps, Hans Krasa, Vicktor Ullmann, and Gideon
10Klein, who had written extensively before the Holocaust and who
11continued to compose under dire circumstances until they were
12sent to their deaths; their music, noted for its great beauty,
13was embraced by the inmates of Theresienstadt for life and hope
14and kept alive in their memories of normal life before the
15Holocaust; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The music will be performed by Linda Veleckis
17Nussbaum, a principal and executive director of the Illinois
18Philharmonic Orchestra, who will be accompanied by Hal
19Grossman, Nina Saito, Heather Carlasare, and Emily Mantel; and
 
20    WHEREAS, We must all do our part to ensure that the
21Holocaust and its many victims will not be forgotten or
22trivialized; it is fitting that we show our unwavering support

1for those who wish to keep the memory of those victims alive;
2therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5we show our support for Temple Anshe Sholom and Rabbi Paul
6Caplan as they host this year's Holocaust memorial service; and
7be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to Temple Anshe Sholom as a symbol of our esteem and
10respect.
