2 | WHEREAS, The State of Illinois has 36 Community Action | ||||||
3 | Agencies that provide services in all 102 counties; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Illinois Community Action Agencies employ more | ||||||
5 | than 5,000 full-time staff; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Illinois Community Action Agencies utilize the | ||||||
7 | services of more than 18,000 volunteers,
totaling 1.3 million | ||||||
8 | hours of service; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Since 1981, the Community Services Block Grant | ||||||
10 | remains the foundation funding for Community Action Agencies; | ||||||
11 | and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, For every Community Services Block Grant dollar | ||||||
13 | invested, the Illinois Community Action
Network leveraged | ||||||
14 | $5.36 from State, local, and private sources; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, In 2009, the Community Services Block Grant, | ||||||
16 | through the Illinois Community Action Network,
helped nearly | ||||||
17 | 800,000 individuals move toward economic security; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, In 2010, the Community Services Block Grant | ||||||
19 | created and retained 2,235 jobs through the
American Recovery |

1 | and Reinvestment Act; and | ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The Community Services Block Grant provides a | ||||||
3 | vital lifeline for Illinoisans in need of
assistance for food, | ||||||
4 | housing, job training, medical assistance, and emergency | ||||||
5 | services; therefore, be it
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
7 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
8 | we support the positive impact of the Community Services Block | ||||||
9 | Grant in the State of Illinois; and be it further
| ||||||
10 | RESOLVED, That we oppose any action by Congress or the | ||||||
11 | President to reduce Community Services Block Grant funding; and | ||||||
12 | be it further | ||||||
13 | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be given | ||||||
14 | to the President pro tempore and Secretary of the United States | ||||||
15 | Senate, the Speaker and Clerk of the United States House of | ||||||
16 | Representatives, each member of the Illinois congressional | ||||||
17 | delegation, and the President of the United States.
