2 | WHEREAS, Louis M. Grado, Ph.D., was a dedicated member of | ||||||
3 | the Eastern Illinois
University faculty from 1955 until 1989; | ||||||
4 | and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Dr. Grado taught in the field of elementary | ||||||
6 | education and provided
invaluable insight into the training of | ||||||
7 | teachers; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Dr. Grado was appointed by the President of the | ||||||
9 | University to head
the newly established Department of | ||||||
10 | Elementary and Junior High School
education in 1970; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, His work, until his retirement, served to | ||||||
12 | significantly and measurably
strengthen the education and | ||||||
13 | training of future teachers; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Dr. Grado's work in education extended beyond our | ||||||
15 | national
boundaries; and | ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Dr. Grado took a two-year leave of absence to | ||||||
17 | assume an advisory
position at a school in rural Nicaragua | ||||||
18 | through work with the
International Cooperation | ||||||
19 | Administration; and |

1 | WHEREAS, Dr. Grado was responsible for all facets of | ||||||
2 | faculty and staff
development and training at his new school; | ||||||
3 | and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Dr. Grado's work came to play an important role in | ||||||
5 | the development
of teacher training processes related to rural | ||||||
6 | education throughout
Nicaragua; therefore, be it
| ||||||
7 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
8 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
9 | we publicly
recognize and commend the work of Dr. Louis M. | ||||||
10 | Grado that so greatly
affected the lives of students, faculty, | ||||||
11 | and staff at Eastern Illinois University; and be it further
| ||||||
12 | RESOLVED, That we recognize the
tremendous value of the | ||||||
13 | work completed by Dr. Grado to further teacher
training and | ||||||
14 | student development in rural Nicaragua; and be it further | ||||||
15 | |||||||
16 | RESOLVED, That we honor Dr. Louis M.
Grado for his | ||||||
17 | contributions to the field of education that will benefit | ||||||
18 | teachers
and students around the world for many generations to | ||||||
19 | come.
