2 | WHEREAS, Ronald Wilson Reagan was born on February 6, 1911, | ||||||
3 | in Tampico,
Illinois, the son of Nellie and John Reagan; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan and his family in 1915 moved to | ||||||
5 | Galesburg, Illinois,
and he
began his formal education at Silas | ||||||
6 | Willard School; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan and his family then moved to | ||||||
8 | Monmouth, Illinois, and
resided in
that fair community during | ||||||
9 | his formative years from 1917-1919, and where he
attended | ||||||
10 | Monmouth Central School; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, When Ronald Reagan was 9 years of age, the family | ||||||
12 | settled in Dixon,
Illinois,
where at Dixon High School he | ||||||
13 | played football and basketball, ran track, served
as president | ||||||
14 | of the student body, and first performed as an actor; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan graduated from Eureka College in | ||||||
16 | 1932 with a degree in
economics and sociology; and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, From humble beginnings, Ronald Reagan went on to | ||||||
18 | become a
sportscaster, actor, Governor of California, and | ||||||
19 | President of the United
States; and

1 | WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan was elected President of the United | ||||||
2 | States in 1980; a
favorite of the American populace, he was | ||||||
3 | elected to a second term in 1984; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Ronald Wilson Reagan, the 40th President of the | ||||||
5 | United States,
warrants a public tribute as a son of Illinois; | ||||||
6 | and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, In 1999, portions of Illinois Route 172 and 92 | ||||||
8 | from Tampico to
Illinois Route
26 and the portions of Illinois | ||||||
9 | Route 26, Illinois Route 29, and U.S. Route 24
from Dixon to | ||||||
10 | Eureka were designated as the Ronald Reagan Trail by Senate | ||||||
11 | Joint
Resolution 3; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, The City of Fulton is the ancestral beginning of | ||||||
13 | Ronald Reagan's connection to Illinois and the cities of | ||||||
14 | Princeton, Galesburg, and Monmouth were essential in
the | ||||||
15 | upbringing of Ronald Reagan and should be included in the | ||||||
16 | Ronald Reagan
Trail; therefore, be it
| ||||||
17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
18 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | ||||||
19 | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that
the
Ronald Reagan Trail is | ||||||
20 | extended to include those portions of U.S. Route 30 and Highway | ||||||
21 | 136 through the City of Fulton, and the portions of U.S. Route
| ||||||
22 | 34 from
the City of Princeton, through the City of Galesburg, |
| |||||||
| |||||||
1 | to the City of Monmouth;
and be
it further
| ||||||
2 | RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation, | ||||||
3 | in accordance with
applicable State and federal laws and rules | ||||||
4 | and in cooperation with units of
local government, be requested | ||||||
5 | to erect appropriate signs, markers, or plaques
along the | ||||||
6 | extended portions of the Ronald Reagan Trail in recognition of | ||||||
7 | this
designation; and be it further
| ||||||
8 | RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be delivered to | ||||||
9 | the Illinois
Department of Transportation.
