| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are pleased to recognize milestones in the |
| 4 | | State of Illinois; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, St. Edward Catholic School provides a high |
| 6 | | quality, faith-based education from three-year old preschool |
| 7 | | through eighth grade; academic excellence is enhanced by |
| 8 | | enrichment activities and a strong community environment that |
| 9 | | helps students develop into well-rounded individuals; and
|
| 10 | | WHEREAS, St. Edward Catholic School is administered by the |
| 11 | | Dominican Sisters of Springfield; the school was founded in |
| 12 | | 1910 with 200 students, and currently has 380 students |
| 13 | | enrolled, who hail from Mayfair and many of the surrounding |
| 14 | | neighborhoods, which include Old Irving Park, Albany Park, and |
| 15 | | Portage Park; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, St. Edward Catholic School has a rich history of |
| 17 | | serving the area's Catholic youth; it is one of the few area |
| 18 | | Catholic schools with actual "Sisters" as administrators and |
| 19 | | teachers; the school principal, Sister Marie Michelle Hackett, |
| 20 | | OP, is a Springfield Dominican and there are four nuns serving |
| 21 | | as teachers in the school; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, St. Edward Catholic School is located on the |
| 2 | | Northwest side of Chicago near Montrose Avenue and the Kennedy |
| 3 | | Expressway; the school makes its home in the Mayfair |
| 4 | | neighborhood on Sunnyside Avenue between Kostner and Lowell |
| 5 | | Avenues; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, The school's mission statement is: "We are a |
| 7 | | community rooted in faith and supported
by St. Edward Parish |
| 8 | | and school families.
Commissioned by Jesus to spread the Good |
| 9 | | News,
we empower our students to serve one another
and the |
| 10 | | global community. We provide a solid educational
foundation |
| 11 | | enhanced by the arts. We instill a passion
for lifelong |
| 12 | | learning, and we form committed Catholics
who care for the |

in our diverse and |
| 14 | | ever-changing world"; therefore, be it
|
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |
| 16 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 17 | | we commend the students, faculty, staff, and alumni of St. |
| 18 | | Edward Catholic School on its long and proud tradition of |
| 19 | | excellence, and congratulate everyone involved in making the |
| 20 | | school's 100th anniversary a memorable event; and be it further
|
| 21 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 22 | | presented to St. Edward Catholic School as a symbol of our |
| 23 | | respect and esteem.
