| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of United | ||||||
| 4 | States Army Sergeant Michael Patrick Bartley of Barnhill, who | ||||||
| 5 | gave his life defending America's freedom on January 11, 2011, | ||||||
| 6 | in Mosul, Iraq; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Michael Patrick Bartley was born in Fairfield; he | ||||||
| 8 | was the son of Robert and Rebecca Isles; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Sgt. Michael Bartley graduated from Fairfield | ||||||
| 10 | Community High School; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Sgt. Michael Bartley served his country with pride | ||||||
| 12 | and distinction as a sergeant with the U.S. Army's 1st | ||||||
| 13 | Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team of the | ||||||
| 14 | 1st Cavalry Division stationed out of Fort Hood, Texas; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Sgt. Michael Bartley was the recipient of numerous | ||||||
| 16 | awards for meritorious service, including the Bronze Star, the | ||||||
| 17 | Purple Heart, the Combat Action Badge, the Army Commendation | ||||||
| 18 | Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense | ||||||
| 19 | Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal with campaign star, the | ||||||
| 20 | Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on | ||||||
| 21 | Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | Service Ribbon, and the Driver/Mechanic Badge; and | ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, United States and Illinois State flags throughout | ||||||
| 3 | Illinois flew at half-staff from January 26-28, 2011, as a | ||||||
| 4 | symbol of mourning and in honor of the sacrifice of Sgt. | ||||||
| 5 | Michael Bartley; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Sgt. Michael Bartley will be remembered fondly for | ||||||
| 7 | his love of country, his generous spirit, his patriotism, and | ||||||
| 8 | his love for his family and friends; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Sgt. Michael Bartley dedicated his life to | ||||||
| 10 | defending America's freedom and gave the ultimate sacrifice; he | ||||||
| 11 | will be missed by his parents, Robert and Rebecca Isles; his | ||||||
| 12 | grandmothers, Delta Lewis and Glenda Isles; his grandfather, | ||||||
| 13 | Henry Bartley; his fellow soldiers; and the citizens of our | ||||||
| 14 | grateful nation; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 16 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 17 | we mourn, along with his family, friends, and the rest of a | ||||||
| 18 | grateful nation, the passing of United States Army Sergeant | ||||||
| 19 | Michael Patrick Bartley; and be it further
| ||||||
| 20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 21 | presented to the family of Sgt. Michael Bartley as a symbol of | ||||||
