Proposes to amend the General Provisions Article of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that only a union of one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in this State. Provides that this State and its political subdivisions shall not create or recognize a legal status similar to that of marriage. Effective upon being declared adopted.

6 | | electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general |
7 | | election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of |
8 | | this resolution a proposition to add Section 9 to Article XIII |

13 | | SECTION 9. MARRIAGE
|
14 | | To secure and preserve the benefits of marriage for our |
15 | | society and for future generations of children, only a union of |
16 | | one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a |
17 | | marriage in this State. This State and its political |
18 | | subdivisions shall not create or recognize a legal status |
19 | | similar to that of marriage.

22 | | declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois |
