SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 5/5-720 new

    Amends the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Provides that if a service member applies for an occupational or professional license or certification and has acquired education, training, or experience while serving in the military that is substantially similar to the education, training, or experience required to receive the license or certification, then the director of the department that issues the license or certification shall accept the education, training, or experience toward that service member's licensure or certification. Sets forth provisions concerning application requirements, departmental rules, and fees. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is
5amended by adding Section 5-720 as follows:
 
6    (20 ILCS 5/5-720 new)
7    Sec. 5-720. Licensure for service members; equivalent
8education, training, and service.
9    (a) In this Section, "service member" means any person who,
10at the time of application under this Section, is an active
11duty member of the United States Armed Forces or any reserve
12component of the United States Armed Forces or the National
13Guard of any state, commonwealth, or territory of the United
14States or the District of Columbia or whose active duty service
15concluded within the preceding 2 years before application.
16    (b) If a service member applies for an occupational or
17professional license or certification and has acquired
18education, training, or experience while serving in the
19military that is substantially similar to the education,
20training, or experience required to receive the license or
21certification, then the director of the department that issues
22the license or certification shall accept the education,
23training, or experience toward that service member's licensure

1or certification. The service member shall apply to the
2department on forms provided by the department. An application
3must include proof that:
4        (1) the applicant is a service member; and
5        (2) the occupational or professional license or
6    certification is related to the applicant's military
7    occupation specialty (MOS).
8    (c) A department may adopt any rules necessary for the
9implementation and administration of this Section and shall by
10rule provide for fees for the administration of this Section.
 
11    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
12becoming law.
