Amends the Counties Code. Provides that certain counties with a population of more than 500,000 may collect a reasonable administrative tow fee that shall be deposited into the county's general fund for payment of costs incurred by the sheriff in towing a vehicle.
Further provides that an administrative tow fee does not have to be collected by the towing company, and if the vehicle is abandoned, then the towing company is not responsible for paying the tow fee to the county.
Effective immediately. |

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by adding Section |
5 | | 5-1134 as follows: |

7 | | Sec. 5-1134. Administrative tow fees. A county with a |
8 | | population of more than 500,000 that has adopted a system of |
9 | | administrative adjudication may collect a reasonable |
10 | | administrative tow fee. The fee shall be deposited into the |
11 | | county's general fund for payment of costs incurred by the |
12 | | sheriff in towing a vehicle. The tow fee does not have to be |
13 | | collected by the towing company. If the vehicle is abandoned, |
14 | | then the towing company is not responsible for paying the tow |
15 | | fee to the county.

16 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
17 | | becoming law.
