Amends the Personnel Code. Provides that the Director of Central Management Services may not include in an official classification specification or in a position listing a requirement that a person employed in the position or a candidate for the position must speak or write a language other than English if the position does not require regular contact with the general public. Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Personnel Code is amended by adding Section |
5 | | 8g as follows: |
6 | | (20 ILCS 415/8g new) |
7 | | Sec. 8g. Prohibition of foreign language requirement. The |
8 | | Director of Central Management Services may not include in an |
9 | | official classification specification or in a position listing |
10 | | a requirement that a person employed in the position or a |
11 | | candidate for the position must speak or write a language other |
12 | | than English if the position does not require regular contact |
13 | | with the general public.

14 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
15 | | becoming law.
