Amends the Township Code. Provides that the electors of a township may prohibit the running at large of dogs and cats. Further provides that the electors may also authorize the requirement that dogs and cats be registered with the township and the imposition of a reasonable fee for the registration. Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Township Code is amended by changing Section |
5 | | 30-110 as follows:
|
6 | | (60 ILCS 1/30-110)
|
7 | | Sec. 30-110. Impounding and sale of animals. |
8 | | (a) The electors may authorize the
distraining, |
9 | | impounding, and sale of cattle, horses, mules, asses, swine,
|
10 | | sheep, and goats for penalties incurred and the costs of the |
11 | | proceeding. The
sale of animals distrained or impounded shall |
12 | | be conducted, as near as may be
practicable, according to the |
13 | | law regulating sales of property by sheriffs for
the |
14 | | satisfaction of a judgment of the circuit court. The owner of |
15 | | the animals
may redeem them from the purchaser at any time |
16 | | within 3 months from the date of
the sale by paying the amount |
17 | | of the purchaser's bid, with reasonable costs for
their keeping |
18 | | and interest upon the amount bid at the rate of 10% per annum.

19 | | (b) The electors may also prohibit the running at large of |
20 | | dogs and cats and authorize the impounding of dogs found |
21 | | running at large
and provide for their destruction at the end |
22 | | of a reasonable period of time if
they are not claimed and the |
23 | | cost of impounding paid.
