| | Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides for the issuance of Soldier's Medal Plates license plates to persons who have earned the Soldier's Medal from the U.S. Armed Forces. Provides that the applicant shall pay an additional fee of $15 for original issuance of the plates, to be deposited into the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund.

1 | | AN ACT concerning transportation.
|
2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding |
5 | | Section 3-699 as follows: |
6 | | (625 ILCS 5/3-699 new) |
7 | | Sec. 3-699. Soldier's Medal license plates. |
8 | | (a) In addition to any other special license plate, the |
9 | | Secretary, upon
receipt of all applicable fees and applications |
10 | | made in the form prescribed by
the Secretary of State, may |
11 | | issue Soldier's Medal license plates to residents of
Illinois |
12 | | who have earned the Soldier's Medal from the United States |
13 | | Armed Forces. The special plates issued under this Section |
14 | | shall be
affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first |
15 | | division, motorcycles, and
motor vehicles of the second |
16 | | division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds.
Plates issued |
17 | | under this Section shall expire according to the staggered
|
18 | | multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this |
19 | | Code.

20 | | (b) The design, color, and format of the plates shall be |
21 | | wholly
within the discretion of the Secretary of State. The |
22 | | Secretary may, in his or
her discretion, allow the plates to be |
23 | | issued as vanity plates or personalized
in accordance with |
