Amends the Property Tax Code. Provides that, as an alternative to mailing a copy of the bill, the collector may send tax bills via e-mail at the request of the taxpayer.

1 | | AN ACT concerning revenue.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Property Tax Code is amended by changing |
5 | | Section 20-5 as follows:
|
6 | | (35 ILCS 200/20-5)
|
7 | | Sec. 20-5. Mailing tax bill to owner. Every township |
8 | | collector, and every
county collector in cases where there is |
9 | | no township collector, upon receiving
the tax book or books, |
10 | | shall prepare tax bills showing each installment of
property |
11 | | taxes assessed, which shall be filled out in accordance with |
12 | | Section
20-40. A copy of the bill shall be mailed by the |
13 | | collector, at least 30 days
prior to the date upon which unpaid |
14 | | taxes become delinquent, to the owner of
the property taxed or |
15 | | to the person in whose name the property is taxed. As an |
16 | | alternative to mailing a copy of the bill, the collector may |
17 | | send the tax bill via e-mail at the request of the taxpayer. If |
18 | | the taxpayer makes such a request, then the taxpayer shall |
19 | | notify the collector of any change in his or her e-mail address |
20 | | as soon as possible after the address is changed.
