Amends the University of Illinois Act with respect to scholarships for the children of veterans. Provides that children of persons who served in the armed forces of the United States at any time during the siege of Beirut between June 14, 1982 and August 21, 1982 or at any time during the Grenada Conflict between October 25, 1983 and December 15, 1983 are eligible for a scholarship. Effective July 1, 2012.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The University of Illinois Act is amended by |
5 | | changing Section 9 as follows:
|

7 | | Sec. 9. Scholarships for children of veterans. For each of |
8 | | the following
periods of hostilities, each county shall be |
9 | | entitled, annually, to one
honorary scholarship in the |
10 | | University, for the benefit of the children of
persons who |
11 | | served in the armed forces of the United States: the
Civil War, |
12 | | World War I, any time between September 16, 1940 and the
|
13 | | termination of World War II, any time during the national |
14 | | emergency
between June 25, 1950 and January 31, 1955, any time |
15 | | during the Viet
Nam conflict between January 1, 1961 and May 7, |
16 | | 1975, any time during the siege of Beirut between June 14, 1982 |
17 | | and August 21, 1982, any time during the Grenada Conflict |
18 | | between October 25, 1983 and December 15, 1983, or any
time on |
19 | | or after August 2, 1990 and until Congress or the President |
20 | | orders that
persons in service are no longer eligible for
the |
21 | | Southwest Asia Service Medal, Operation Enduring Freedom, and |
22 | | Operation Iraqi Freedom. Preference shall be
given to the |
23 | | children of persons who are deceased or
