Amends the Illinois Oil and Gas Act. Provides that the Department of Natural Resources shall adopt rules that prohibit hydraulic fracturing in designated State areas. Provides that the provision applies only to the extraction of natural gas from shale. Effective immediately.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Oil and Gas Act is amended by |
| 5 | | adding Section 6.8 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (225 ILCS 725/6.8 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 6.8. Prohibition of hydraulic fracturing in |
| 8 | | designated State areas. |
| 9 | | (a) The Department shall adopt rules that prohibit |
| 10 | | hydraulic fracturing in State areas that, include, but is not |
| 11 | | limited to, parks, forests, natural areas, conservation areas, |
| 12 | | recreational areas, memorials, and wetlands. |
| 13 | | (b) This Section applies only to the extraction of natural |
| 14 | | gas from shale.

| 15 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
| 16 | | becoming law.
|
