Amends the Code of Criminal Procedure of 1963. Provides that during a trial or hearing related to a criminal prosecution, the court shall order that the residence address, business address, name
of the place of business, home telephone number, or business telephone
number of any victims of or witnesses to the crime shall not be
disclosed in open court. Provides that during questioning by the State or defense, a victim or witness shall not be
required to disclose such information unless the court determines that there is a compelling reason to order such disclosure in the interest of justice that outweighs prejudice to the victim or witness.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Code of Criminal Procedure of 1963 is |
5 | | amended by adding Section 115-23 as follows: |
6 | | (725 ILCS 5/115-23 new) |
7 | | Sec. 115-23. Nondisclosure of certain information about |
8 | | victims and witnesses. |
9 | | (a) During a trial or hearing related to a criminal |
10 | | prosecution, the court shall order that the residence address, |
11 | | business address, name
of the place of business, home telephone |
12 | | number, or business telephone
number of any victims of or |
13 | | witnesses to the crime shall not be
disclosed in open court. |
14 | | (b) During questioning by the State or defense, a victim or |
15 | | witness shall not be
required to disclose the information |
16 | | listed in subsection (a) unless the court determines that there |
17 | | is a compelling reason to order such disclosure in the interest |
18 | | of justice that outweighs prejudice to the victim or witness.
