Creates the Veterans' Monument Protection Act. Prohibits any business or recyclable metal dealer, as defined in the Recyclable Metal Purchase Registration Law, to purchase, accept, or give anything of value in exchange for any metal taken from the grave marker of a veteran. Provides that a business or recyclable metal dealer who commits a violation of the Act is guilty of a business offense and shall be fined a maximum of $1,000 per grave marker. Provides that upon discovering that metal from the grave marker of a veteran is missing, a cemetery official shall notify the local law enforcement agency and, if possible, the family of the deceased veteran. Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the |
5 | | Veterans' Monument Protection Act. |
6 | | Section 5. Prohibited acts. It is a violation of this Act |
7 | | for any business or recyclable metal dealer, as defined in the |
8 | | Recyclable Metal Purchase Registration Law, to purchase, |
9 | | accept, or give anything of value in exchange for any metal |
10 | | taken from the grave marker of a veteran. |
11 | | Section 10. Cemetery notification. Upon discovering that |
12 | | metal from the grave marker of a veteran is missing, a cemetery |
13 | | official shall notify the local law enforcement agency and, if |
14 | | possible, the family of the deceased veteran. |
15 | | Section 15. Penalties. A business or recyclable metal |
16 | | dealer who commits a violation of this Act is guilty of a |
17 | | business offense and shall be fined a maximum of $1,000 per |
18 | | grave marker.

19 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
20 | | becoming law.
