Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that where a marked flush median of sufficient width divides one or more lanes of traffic driving in opposite directions, a left turn shall not be made from any other lane and that a vehicle shall not be driven in the marked flush median except when preparing for or making a left turn from or into the roadway, driveway, or alley or when preparing for or making a U turn when otherwise permitted by law. Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing |
5 | | Section 11-801 as follows:
|
6 | | (625 ILCS 5/11-801) (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 11-801)

7 | | Sec. 11-801. Required position and method of turning. (a) |
8 | | The driver of a vehicle intending to turn at an intersection |
9 | | shall do
so as follows:
|
10 | | (1) Both the approach for a right turn and a right turn |
11 | | shall be
made as close as practical to the right-hand curb or |
12 | | edge of the
roadway.
|
13 | | (2) The driver of a vehicle intending to turn left at any
|
14 | | intersection shall approach the intersection in the extreme |
15 | | left-hand
lane lawfully available to traffic moving in the |
16 | | direction of travel of
such vehicle, and after entering the |
17 | | intersection, the left turn shall
be made so as to leave the |
18 | | intersection in a lane lawfully available to
traffic moving in |
19 | | such direction upon the roadway being entered.
Whenever |
20 | | practicable the left turn shall be made in that portion of the
|
21 | | intersection to the left of the center of the intersection.

22 | | (3) The Department and local authorities in their |
23 | | respective
jurisdictions may cause official traffic control |
