| | Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides for the issuance of In God We Trust license plates, for an additional charge of $20 at initial issuance and at renewal. Provides that $15 of the original issuance fee and $2 of the renewal fee shall be deposited into the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund. Provides that $5 of the original issuance fee and $18 of the renewal fee shall be deposited into the Veterans Assistance Fund.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding |
5 | | Section 3-696 as follows: |
6 | | (625 ILCS 5/3-696 new) |
7 | | Sec. 3-696. In God We Trust license plates. |
8 | | (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and |
9 | | applications
made in the form prescribed by the Secretary, may |
10 | | issue special registration
plates designated as
In God We Trust
|
11 | | license plates.
The special plates issued under this Section |
12 | | shall be affixed only to
passenger vehicles of the first |
13 | | division or motor vehicles of the second
division weighing not |
14 | | more than 8,000 pounds.
Plates issued under this Section shall |
15 | | expire according to the multi-year
procedure established by |
16 | | Section 3-414.1 of this Code. |
17 | | (b) The design and color of the special plates shall be |
18 | | wholly within the
discretion of the Secretary.
The Secretary |
19 | | may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be issued as
|
20 | | vanity or personalized plates in accordance with Section |
21 | | 3-405.1 of this Code.
The plates are not required to designate |
22 | | "Land of Lincoln", as prescribed in
subsection (b) of Section |
