| 1 | | AN ACT concerning aging.
|
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Senior Citizens on State Boards and |
| 5 | | Commissions Act is amended by changing Section 1 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (320 ILCS 5/1) (from Ch. 23, par. 6151)

| 7 | | Sec. 1.
It is hereby found and and determined by the |
| 8 | | General Assembly that
state boards and commissions exist for |
| 9 | | the singular purpose of protecting
the public health and |
| 10 | | welfare; that citizens over 60 years of age represent
a |
| 11 | | significant percentage of the population and have the time and |
| 12 | | experience
to devote to the important issues which have a |
| 13 | | profound effect on the daily
lives of older Illinoisans.

| 14 | | It is also hereby found that senior citizens shall hold |
| 15 | | their positions
on boards and commissions by matter of right, |
| 16 | | not discretion. These
positions shall be held by consumer |
| 17 | | representatives over the age of 60 who
shall serve as |
| 18 | | spokespersons for the interests of the State's older |
| 19 | | population.
