Amends the School Code. Provides that each school board shall require at least 60 minutes of reading instruction per day for any student whose reading level is one grade level or lower than his or her current grade level according to current learning standards and the school district. Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections |
5 | | 10-20.53 and 34-18.45 as follows: |

7 | | Sec. 10-20.53. Minimum reading instruction. Each school |
8 | | board shall require at least 60 minutes of reading instruction |
