Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides for the issuance of Police Medal of Valor plates to residents of Illinois who meet eligibility requirements prescribed by the Secretary of State. Provides that in addition to the appropriate registration fees, an applicant for the special plate shall be charged an original issuance fee of $25 and a fee of $25 for each renewal. Provides that $10 of the additional original issuance fee and $23 of the renewal fee shall be deposited into the Drivers Education Fund. Provides that $15 of the original issuance fee and $2 of the renewal fee shall be deposited into the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund. Effective immediately.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 10. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding |
5 | | Section 3-696 as follows: |
6 | | (625 ILCS 5/3-696 new) |
7 | | Sec. 3-696. Police Medal of Valor license plates. |
8 | | (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of an application made in |
9 | | the form
prescribed by the Secretary, may issue special |
10 | | registration plates
designated as Police Medal of Valor license |
11 | | plates to residents of Illinois who meet eligibility |
12 | | requirements prescribed by the Secretary of State. The special |
13 | | plates
issued
under this Section shall be affixed only to |
14 | | passenger vehicles of the first
division and motor vehicles of |
15 | | the second division weighing not more than
8,000 pounds. Plates |
16 | | issued under this Section shall expire according
to the |
17 | | multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this |
18 | | Code. |
19 | | (b) The design and color of the plates is wholly within the
|
20 | | discretion of the Secretary. The Secretary may
allow the plates |
21 | | to be issued as vanity or personalized plates under Section
|
22 | | 3-405.1 of this Code. The plates are not required to designate |
23 | | "Land of Lincoln", as prescribed in subsection (b) of Section |
