Amends the Vital Records Act to provide that the electronic reporting system for death registrations shall be used to transfer information to the Department on Aging for the administration of the Seniors Ride Free program.

2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | | Section 5. The Vital Records Act is amended by changing |
5 | | Section 18.5 as follows:
|
6 | | (410 ILCS 535/18.5)
|
7 | | Sec. 18.5. Electronic reporting system for death |
8 | | registrations. The State
Registrar
shall facilitate death |
9 | | registration by implementing an electronic reporting
system. |
10 | | The
system may be used to transfer information to individuals |
11 | | and institutions
responsible for
completing and filing |
12 | | certificates and related reports for deaths that occur in
the |
13 | | State. The system shall be used to transfer information to the |
14 | | Department on Aging for the administration of the Seniors Ride |
15 | | Free program.
The system shall be capable of storing and |
16 | | retrieving accurate
and timely
data and statistics for those |
17 | | persons and agencies responsible for vital
records |
18 | | registration
and administration. Upon establishment of such an |
19 | | electronic reporting system, but not later than January 1, |
20 | | 2011, the county clerk in the county in which a death occurred |
21 | | or the county clerk of the county where a decedent last |
22 | | resided, as indicated on the decedent's death certificate, |
23 | | shall be authorized to issue certifications of death records |
