| 4 | | "Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section |
| 5 | | 10-22.3g as follows:

| 6 | | (105 ILCS 5/10-22.3g new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 10-22.3g. Insurance coverage for students; |
| 8 | | catastrophic injuries. A school board in a school district |
| 9 | | maintaining grades 9 through 12 shall maintain catastrophic |
| 10 | | health insurance coverage, not subject to any annual or |
| 11 | | lifetime maximum benefit, for students who sustain an injury |
| 12 | | that results in medical expenses of $50,000 or more while |
| 13 | | participating in an athletic activity under the jurisdiction of |
| 14 | | or sponsored or controlled by the school district.
