AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 166

2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 166 by replacing
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4    "Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
5Higher Education Green Jobs and Technology Act.
 
6    Section 5. Definitions. In this Act:
7    "Community college" means a public community college in
8this State.
9    "Green jobs" means jobs in which green technology is
10employed and may include the occupation codes identified as
11green jobs by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics and
12any codes identified as green jobs by the Illinois Department
13of Labor and the Department of Commerce and Economic
14Opportunity.
15    "Green technology" means technology that (i) promotes
16clean energy, renewable energy, or energy efficiency, (ii)

1reduces greenhouse gases or carbon emissions, or (iii) involves
2the invention, design, and application of chemical products and
3processes to eliminate the use and generation of hazardous
4substances.
5    "State university" means a public university in this State.
 
6    Section 10. Collaboration; promotion of industry.
7    (a) Representatives from each State university and
8community college, in conjunction with research centers
9affiliated with these institutions that focus on clean or
10sustainable energy and that are located within the same
11geographic regions, may meet annually to develop collaborative
12efforts with regard to the green technology industry.
13    (b) The Board of Higher Education and the Illinois
14Community College Board shall annually publicize on their
15Internet websites information concerning efforts made by State
16universities and community colleges to promote the green
17technology industry, including the development of new academic
18degree and certificate programs, courses of instruction, and
19initiatives made by these State universities and community
20colleges to align green jobs programs with employer needs.
 
21    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
22becoming law.".
